613 (Alton) Squadron celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the formation of the Air Cadets with the Alton community on a gloriously sunny day with a Church Service at St Lawrence Church.
The service was led by the Squadron Chaplain, Pastor Clive Anderson of the Butts Church, generously welcomed by Rev Andrew Micklefield of St Lawrence as the two congregations came together, with the cadets and their families, to hear about the 75 Years of Air Cadet history.
Sergeant Rebecca Humphrey, Corporal James Sawdy and Sergeant Emily Hillan spoke to the gathered community on the history and current activities. Cadet David Humphrey read his own poem and Cadet Tom Spear the Bible reading.
Alton Mayor, Councillor Pamela Jones and Eggar’s School Head Teacher Patrick Sullivan joined the community celebration. The Mayor said, ““I’m immensely happy to support the Cadets and celebrate this monumental occasion. The Air Cadets gives young people an excellent start in life.”
After the Service everyone enjoyed a special celebration cake, kindly supplied by the Butts Church Congregation.
